Travel Insurance

Travel insurance for safaris, beach holidays and international trips, covering medical emergencies, cancellation, delays and lost baggage, arranged with your booking.
  • Medical and evacuation cover
  • Cancellation, delay and baggage protection
  • Policies that meet Schengen visa rules
  • Advice on Zanzibar's mandatory cover
  • Arranged together with your booking

We arrange cover through licensed insurance companies — the policy is between you and the insurer, and we help you choose it, buy it and claim on it.

Most trips go exactly to plan. Travel insurance is for the ones that don't: a medical emergency abroad, a cancelled flight, a family crisis that forces you to cancel, or a suitcase that never arrives. It's a small part of the cost of a trip and can save you a great deal if something goes wrong.

What a good policy covers

  • Emergency medical treatment and hospital stays while you're away
  • Medical evacuation and repatriation, which matters on safari far from a major hospital
  • Trip cancellation and curtailment for covered reasons such as illness or bereavement
  • Travel delays, missed connections and lost or delayed baggage
  • Personal liability and, on some policies, loss of documents and cash

When insurance is required

For some trips, insurance isn't optional. Schengen visa applications require medical travel insurance that meets a set minimum level of cover. Zanzibar requires all foreign visitors to buy its own inbound insurance before arrival, separate from any other policy. Some tour operators and cruise lines also ask for proof of cover. We'll tell you what your destination requires when you book.

Choosing the right cover

We'll ask about your destination, trip length, age and activities, and whether anyone has existing medical conditions, so the policy fits the trip you're actually taking. Diving, hot-air ballooning and other adventure activities may need extra cover. Read the policy summary we send you: it sets out what's covered, the limits and the excess, and who to call in an emergency.

Already insured through your employer or bank? Send us the policy details and we'll help you check whether it covers this trip.

Questions

Do I need travel insurance for a safari in Kenya?

It isn't a legal requirement for most travellers, but we strongly recommend it. Safaris take you far from major hospitals, and a policy with medical evacuation cover means you can be flown to proper care quickly if you are injured or fall seriously ill.

Does travel insurance cover existing medical conditions?

Some policies do, some exclude them and others cover them after declaration. Always tell us about existing conditions before buying, because an undeclared condition can invalidate a claim. We'll help you find a policy that covers your situation, where one is available.

When should I buy travel insurance?

As soon as you've paid your deposit. Cancellation cover only protects you from the date the policy starts, so buying early means you're covered if something forces you to cancel before departure.
