4-Day Maldives Overwater Escape

Three nights in an overwater villa in the Maldives with breakfast and dinner daily, resort transfers by speedboat or seaplane, and taxes included.
  • 4 days · 3 nights
  • From Nairobi or Mombasa
  • Overwater villa

Overview

Some trips are about seeing as much as possible. The Maldives is about the opposite. This escape gives you three nights in an overwater villa, stepping from your deck straight into a turquoise lagoon, with breakfast and dinner each day and nothing on the schedule unless you want it there.

Each resort in the Maldives sits on its own island, so getting there is part of the experience. Resorts close to Malé are reached by speedboat in under an hour. Those in the outer atolls are reached by seaplane, a short, spectacular flight over reefs and sandbanks, or by domestic flight and boat. We'll tell you exactly which applies to your resort before you book.

How you spend the days

Snorkel the house reef, where you might see turtles, reef sharks and rays a few metres from shore. Take a sunset dolphin cruise, a sandbank picnic or a dive with the resort's dive centre. Or just swim, read and sleep. Dinners can be at the main restaurant or, at many resorts, upgraded to a private table on the beach.

  • 3 nights in an overwater villa
  • Daily breakfast and dinner
  • Return resort transfers by speedboat or seaplane
  • Taxes, including the Maldives green tax

Flights to Malé are quoted separately, so you can choose the routing that suits you from Nairobi or Mombasa. Perfect for honeymoons, anniversaries and milestone birthdays.

Day by day

  1. Day 1

Arrival in Malé and transfer to your resort

Land at Velana International Airport in Malé, clear immigration with your visa on arrival and meet the resort's representative in the arrivals hall. Depending on your resort, transfer by speedboat or seaplane over the atolls. Check in to your overwater villa, enjoy a welcome drink and spend the rest of the day swimming from your deck. Dinner at the resort and overnight.

  2. Day 2

House reef and resort at leisure

After breakfast, borrow snorkelling gear and explore the resort's house reef, where turtles, reef fish and small reef sharks are often seen close to shore. Spend the afternoon on the beach or by the pool, or book a spa treatment. As the sun goes down, enjoy the view from your villa deck before dinner at the resort. Overnight in your overwater villa.

  3. Day 3

    Optional excursions

A day for an optional excursion, booked locally at the resort. Popular choices include a sunset dolphin cruise, a snorkelling trip to a nearby reef, a sandbank picnic, a visit to a local island to see Maldivian village life, or a dive with the resort's dive centre. If you prefer, simply stay put and relax. Breakfast and dinner at the resort. Overnight in your villa.

  4. Day 4

    Departure

Enjoy breakfast and a final swim. The resort schedules your speedboat or seaplane back to Malé according to your flight time, usually allowing at least three hours at the airport before an international departure. Seaplanes only fly in daylight, so very early morning flights may need a night near the airport, which we'll plan for when booking. Safe travels home.

Good to know

  • The Maldives gives a free 30-day visa on arrival to visitors with a confirmed resort booking, return ticket and passport valid for six months.
  • Every traveller must complete the free IMUGA traveller declaration online within 96 hours before arrival.
  • Seaplanes fly only in daylight. If you land after dark, you may need a night near the airport, or a resort reached by speedboat.
  • Swimwear and alcohol are fine on resort islands, but local islands are conservative and alcohol-free. Cover up when visiting villages.

Questions about this trip

Do Kenyans need a visa for the Maldives?

No advance visa is needed. The Maldives issues a free 30-day tourist visa on arrival to all nationalities, provided you have a passport valid for at least six months, a confirmed resort booking and a return or onward ticket. You must also complete the free IMUGA traveller declaration online within 96 hours of arrival.

Will we arrive by speedboat or seaplane?

It depends on the resort. Resorts in the atolls near Malé are usually reached by speedboat in under an hour. Resorts further away need a seaplane or a domestic flight followed by a boat. Seaplanes are scenic but only fly in daylight. We'll confirm the transfer type and its timing for your chosen resort when we quote.

When is the best time to visit the Maldives?

The dry north-east monsoon, roughly December to April, brings the most sunshine and calm seas, and is also the busiest and priciest period. From around May to November the south-west monsoon brings more rain and wind, but also lower rates and good conditions for seeing manta rays and whale sharks in some atolls.

Are flights included?

No. The package covers your resort stay, meals, transfers and taxes, and we quote international flights to Malé separately. There are no direct flights from Kenya, so most routings connect in the Gulf or another hub. Quoting flights separately lets you choose the best timing for your resort transfer and budget.
