Overview
Diani is Mombasa's favourite escape for a reason. Just south of the city, the water turns turquoise, the sand turns powder-white and the pace drops to something closer to a stroll. This two-day getaway is built for people who live on the coast or are passing through and want one proper night by the sea without planning anything.
We collect you in Mombasa and drive you south, usually via the Dongo Kundu bypass, so you're on the beach by lunchtime. The rest is up to you. Swim in the warm lagoon inside the reef, walk the long beach at low tide, take a glass-bottom boat over the coral, or try snorkelling, paddleboarding or, in the windy months, a kitesurfing lesson. In the evening, eat well: Diani is good for grilled fish, prawns and Swahili curries.

Day by day
- Day 1
Mombasa → Diani Beach
Pick-up from your Mombasa home or hotel at around 09:00. Drive south to Diani, usually about an hour to an hour and a half depending on traffic and whether we use the bypass or the Likoni ferry. Check in, have lunch and spend the afternoon on the beach or in the pool. Book a glass-bottom boat or snorkelling trip if the tide is right. Dinner at your hotel and overnight.
- Day 2
Morning on the beach → Mombasa
Wake early for a walk along the beach at sunrise, when the sand is cool and the fishermen are bringing in the night's catch. After breakfast, enjoy the morning in the water or by the pool. Check out at the hotel's usual time, around 11:00, and leave your bags at reception if you want to stay for lunch. The return transfer gets you back to Mombasa in the afternoon.

Good to know
- Diani's lagoon is tidal. Snorkelling and boat trips are best around high tide, so check the tide times with your hotel.
- Only book water activities through your hotel or a licensed operator, and agree the price before you go.
- Monkeys, including the rare Angolan colobus, live in the coastal forest. Don't feed them and keep balcony doors closed.
- Extend to two or more nights easily: just tell us your dates.
Questions about this trip
How long is the drive from Mombasa to Diani?
Usually about an hour to an hour and a half. The Dongo Kundu bypass lets us avoid the Likoni ferry queue, which is why most transfers use it. Traffic in Mombasa and in Ukunda town can add time, especially on Friday afternoons and during school holidays, so allow a little extra on busy days.

What water activities can I do in Diani?
The most popular are snorkelling, glass-bottom boat trips over the reef, paddleboarding, kayaking and, when the wind is up, kitesurfing lessons. Diving is available through dive centres along the beach. Most activities are booked locally and paid separately, and the best times depend on the tide.
Can I extend the getaway to more nights?
Yes. The two-day trip is the shortest version, and many guests stay two or three nights instead. Just give us your dates and the number of nights, and we'll quote the same hotel or suggest another one that has better availability or rates for that week.
