5-Day Istanbul Experience
Istanbul in five well-paced days: Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and Topkapi, a Bosphorus cruise, the Princes' Islands and four dinners, with flights included.

Istanbul straddles Europe and Asia across the Bosphorus: Ottoman mosques, palaces and bazaars, a 7–8-hour direct flight from Nairobi or Mombasa. Most Kenyans need a visa.
Istanbul is the great city break from Kenya: Byzantine and Ottoman monuments, bazaars and Bosphorus ferries, a direct flight away from both Nairobi and Mombasa, and on the same clock as home. Türkiye's largest city sits on both banks of the Bosphorus strait, so you can have breakfast in Europe and dinner in Asia.
History is everywhere, the food is outstanding and the shopping is serious. With Turkish Airlines flying direct, Istanbul is also a simple first long-haul trip, and it combines well with Cappadocia's balloon valleys, just over an hour away by air.
Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–November) bring mild weather and fewer crowds; April is tulip season. July and August are hot and busy. Winters are cold and wet with occasional snow, but museums are quieter and hotel rates lower.
From Nairobi: Turkish Airlines flies non-stop to Istanbul in roughly 7–8 hours.
From Mombasa: Turkish Airlines resumed direct flights in October 2025, a few times a week, taking about 7¼ hours.
Istanbul keeps the same time as Kenya all year.
Kenyan passport holders need a visa for Türkiye. If you hold a valid visa or residence permit from a Schengen country, the US, the UK or Ireland, you may qualify for Türkiye's conditional e-Visa, subject to conditions such as a return ticket. Everyone else applies through the Turkish Embassy in Nairobi. Check evisa.gov.tr before you travel; we help with both routes.

Yes. Turkish Airlines flies non-stop from Nairobi to Istanbul in roughly 7–8 hours, and resumed direct flights from Mombasa in October 2025, a few times a week. Istanbul keeps the same time as Kenya all year, so there's no jet lag, which makes it an easy first long-haul holiday.
Four nights covers the essentials: a day in Sultanahmet for Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and Topkapı Palace, a bazaar day, a Bosphorus cruise and an evening around Galata and Karaköy. Add two or three nights for Cappadocia, a short flight away, if you want hot-air balloons and cave hotels as well.
Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–November) bring mild weather, tulips in April and smaller crowds than summer. July and August are hot and busy. Winters are cold and wet with occasional snow, but hotel rates are lower and the museums are quieter. Pack layers whatever the month, because evenings by the water get cool.
Cover your shoulders and knees, and women should cover their hair; scarves are often available at the entrance. You remove your shoes before going in. Mosques close to visitors briefly during the five daily prayers, especially at Friday midday, so plan your sightseeing around prayer times and keep your voice low inside.
Yes, if you have two or three extra nights. Cappadocia is a little over an hour by air from Istanbul, and its rock valleys, cave hotels and sunrise hot-air balloon flights are among Türkiye's highlights. Balloon flights depend on the weather and are sometimes cancelled, so keep a spare morning in your plan.
